Summer Safety
It's that time of year again when the sun comes out, the weather heats up and everyone starts thinking about summer vacations. Whether you're out of town for a few weeks or just camping for the weekend, we have a few tips that will keep your family and property safe while you're away. If you are taking a trip this year, please let us know by either filling out our online Holiday Notification form, emailing us at or calling us at 1.800.387.2966. Make sure to include any special instructions regarding neighbours or friends that will be checking in on your place while you're away.

Below is a brief checklist of "to-do's". Print and review it before you leave for your next vacation. You can also find additional hints and tips in the safe living section of this web site.


Vacation Checklist

  • Ensure all doors and windows are locked.
  • Position curtains and shades the way they normally are when you are home.
  • Discontinue service of your newspaper.
  • Ask a neighbour to bring in your mail and keep an eye on things.
  • Make sure the neighbours have an itinerary of your trip so they can contact you.
  • Have indoor and outdoor lights on timers.
  • Lock backyard gates.
  • Unplug any electrical applicances that won't be used while you're away.
  • Give away any perishable food you have sitting around.
  • Refill any prescriptions you may need.
  • Check your phone messages often, or have someone do it for you.
