How does Monitoring Work?

All of the components of your security system are connected to a central control panel, essentially the brains of the system. The control panel communicates with VOXCOM's Emergency Response Centre via your regular telephone line or through a cellular network.

Once your system is armed, VOXCOM monitors each of the sensors in your home or business for activity. If a sensor is tripped and no valid code is entered into the keypad within a specified time, an alarm signal is sent to the Emergency Response Centre.

This is when VOXCOM’s Emergency Response Operators jump into action.



The Emergency Response Centre

VOXCOM began monitoring Canadians for personal medical emergencies in 1989. Since then it has developed the Emergency Response Centre (ERC) into one of the most technologically advanced monitoring stations in the country watching out for over 122,000 homes, businesses and individuals.

VOXCOM’s Emergency Response Centre (ERC) combines the very latest in technology with a best-in-class training program for their Emergency Response Operators. With 12 weeks of in-house training and practicum learning, their ERC Operators learn to respond to emergency alarm situations and medical emergencies with precision and professionalism. In addition to this training, all of their operators become certified with the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) and the Security Industry Association (SIA).

Multiple-monitor operator stations, integrated with leading edge response platforms, two-way voice technology and complete customer management systems, ensure that all of the information to handle the situation quickly and correctly is obtained for the operator. This high-end technology ensures a rapid response to any emergency.

Through their commitment to excellence, VOXCOM has built and operated the ERC to meet the requirements of the Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada (ULC) and is one of only two Canadian monitoring stations to have earned the prestigious Five-Diamond Certification from the CSAA. To earn this designation VOXCOM displayed proficiency in alarm verification, communication with emergency services and emergency preparedness for a wide variety of scenarios. The CSAA Five-Diamond Certification is seen as the benchmark of excellence for a central station.
