Motion Detectors

Motion Detectors are now a standard part of most security systems. They provide extra protection by monitoring large areas of the home from burglars who may gain access through unprotected doors or windows. Motion sensor technology has come a long way in the last few years. We are now able to differentiate between intruders and pets (up to approximately 80 lbs.), so there are far fewer false alarms.

Motion Detectors work via PIR (passive infra red) technology, which scans a selected area for movement or changes in temperature. They are the most common and economical type of motion detectors in the market today. PIR detectors are available in standard, pet friendly, and harsh environment (outdoor) models.

Motion detectors provide accurate coverage of up to 2500 square feet and can be setup on the ceiling, wall or in a corner depending on what type of protection your home or business needs.

Motion Detector False Alarms
Motion detectors may give a false alarm for various reasons depending on the type of motion detector and the environment it has been installed in. We've listed some of the primary causes below based on type of detector.

Type of Detector	Reason for False Alarm	Solution
Heat	Heating and air-conditioning systems, appliances and other machinery, or reflected sunlight from a window or mirror.	Motion detector can be adjusted to face a different direction or the sensitivity of detector can be adjusted.
Moving Objects	Balloons, plants or curtains	Make sure light objects are not stored near open windows, or vents when the system is armed.
Pets	Dog or cat walking around house	Ensure you have a pet-friendly motion detector installed.
